Our Breed

Our aim is to breed the Slovakian roughhaired pointer as a healthy, efficient hunting dog with big focus on a stable character.

Due to the fact that there is no Slovakian roughhaired pointer club associated to the JGHV in germany at the moment, breeding takes place directly via the VDH and by that via the FCI. Besides the criteria which has to be fulfilled both by the breeding dog (health tests, HD-rays, genetic fingerprint, 2 conformation scores with at least “very good”, character test at a breed approval event) and as well by the breeder (advanced training courses in kynology, dog breeding, breeding practics), for us the hunting use has priority. Because of that our dogs have to prove themselves not only at hunting tests, but also in hunters daily life. Our (breeding)dogs fulfill all breeding criteria required by the JGHV.

Besides the typical talents and fields of use of a classic pointing dog the Slovakian roughhaired pointer has a distinctive sharpness on game and predators without being headless on boar. He is not a long-range scout, but dissolves consciously from his leader.
For us as hunters, falconers and foresters the Slovakian roughhaired pointer unites a rich package of our requirements in his “person”, which makes him stand out as an allrounder for hunting use as well as a specialist for field- and waterwork.

If one wants to try(!) the comparison to other breeds, the main bearers of the breed will be found: Český fousek, Weimaraner and German wirehaired pointer. The Slovakian roughhaired pointer does not have man sharpness though and is an exceedingly social being concerning the interaction with people and conspecies!
